Google Local, also known as Google My Business, is an extremely useful tool for business both big and small. Google My Business has been around since 2014, and has since become a highly accurate, heavily populated information tool, providing huge benefits to Google, search users, and business owners.
It’s important for any business, online or not, to have a Google business listing. Google My Business is used as a key source of information by many online consumers, and as such, it would be a big mistake not to include your business’s details.
Where does my Google Local listing appear?
Your Google Local listing will appear in numerous forms across Google. When people search directly for your business name, your company’s details (contact information, opening hours, reviews etc.) will all appear in an info box on the right-hand side of the search results on desktop. On mobile, the info box shows at the top of the results.
Having a Google Local listing also enables you to appear in the results for broader search queries, such as “florists near me”. In this case, your business will show in a smaller box, along with the details of your competitors. Similarly, the same search term on Google Maps will show the visible locations of you and your competitor businesses.
What are the benefits of a Google Local listing?
A Google Local listing means increased visibility, and that’s a huge benefit for any business. By adding your information to Google, you’re enabling the search engine to help put potential customers in touch with you.
Google voice search is becoming a much more prominent method of internet research, and people may ask their Google Assistant questions such as “What time does Business X close today?” or “Where is the nearest pet shop to me?”. As Google Local becomes more and more populated with information, these questions can be answered with much more accuracy.
A Google My Business listing doesn’t just give you a tool to display your key information – it also leaves users with an option to rate and review you. With a lot of satisfied customers leaving you reviews on your listing, potential clients will see just how highly rated you are without having to leave Google.
How much does a Google Local listing cost?
Google is the world’s most used website – getting your information displayed on it so prominently is going be expensive, right?
Wrong! A Google My Business listing is completely free. By adding your information, you’re not just helping yourself, but you’re also helping Google to become the most accurate and wholesome source of data.
How do I get listed on Google Local?
Adding your business to Google Local couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is go to Google My Business and create an account.
From there, you’ll be asked to enter some basic information, including your business name, your company address, your opening hours, and your web address. After completing this information, your listing will be in pending mode.
With this being such a popular tool, Google has to ensure that only genuine businesses get listed, and as such, there’s a verification process required. Again, this is relatively simple, and consists of Google ensuring your business is actually at the address given. They do this by sending a postcard to said address, which features a small verification code. Once received, just log back into Google My Business, and enter the verification code – your business will be published!
